Community Midwives

Miss Rachel Leanords

Our community midwife and holds ante-natal appointments on Wednesday from 09:00. When you think you may be pregnant, you may wish to confirm it with a pregnancy test from the chemist.  Please start taking folic acid 400 micrograms daily but avoid any other medications without speaking to your pharmacist, midwife or doctor first.  Also avoid soft cheese, seafood and foods with unpasteurized milk.

The district nurse team attached to Westbourne Surgery delivers care to patients registered within the practice. This care is mainly delivered to patients in their own home but there may be occasions when patients may be asked to attend the surgery.

District nurses care for patients of all ages to improve or maintain their health and to provide highly skilled nursing care to those who are ill or recovering from illness.

District Nurse Services:

  • Wound care
  • Support visits and carer support
  • Terminal care
  • Chronic disease management
  • Continence advice
  • Health education

Referrals are mainly made from GPs and local hospitals but referrals are welcome from patients, carers and families.

Health Visitors

Children can be taken on Fridays between 10.00 and 12.00 to be weighed and given advice by the Health Visitors at the One Stop Shop, Paddock Scout Hut, West View Rise, (off Church Street), Paddock, and Huddersfield.
